[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]C.E.L. Paving Products was delighted to attend the 2016 Concrete Manufacturers Association Awards Gala Dinner as a multiple category nominee. The function, held every 2 years, is a celebration of excellence in the manufacture of precast concrete elements.
This year, the gala dinner was held at Summer Place in Johannesburg.
Being a national awards event, the competition was naturally fierce with a total of 123 entries, considerably up from the 77 entries received for the previous awards function.
C.E.L. Paving Products was nominated for 2 categories, namely Precast for Life and Community Upliftment.
Precast for Life Category
In the Precast for Life category, nominees were selected and awarded based on the durability and long-term application of their concrete brick paving products.
Our concrete paving products received 2 nominations in this category, the first being for the Croydon Residential Estate located in Faure, Western Cape.
This exclusive estate required a striking paving product that would complement the rustic tone of the estate while maintaining paving durability and consistency.
Our 190x125mm Brownstone Exposed Aggregate Paver suited all the above requirements and, more than 10 years later, the surfaces speak volumes for the durability of our paving products.
With careful attention paid to the construction of the earthworks and laying of our paving blocks, the result has produced roads free from rutting and deformation.
Our second nomination in the Precast for Life category was for the Houtkapperspoort Mountain Retreat Cottages, located in the upmarket Constantia Nek, Cape Town.
The original asphalt roads and entrance had deteriorated over the years, making it time for a paving solution that was both fresh and aesthetically pleasing.
The laid back atmosphere of the resort required a paver that could capture the serene ambience wanted by their guests, as well as to provide visual appeal and withstand weathering for years to come.
In 2003, the entrance and roads throughout the entire resort were upgraded.
Our Sandstone Vintage Pavers and Charcoal Double Cobbles were both selected based on their long-term appeal as well as their colour blending charm.
Thirteen years later, and our pavers have aged exceptionally well. The details of the surface colouring are unchanged and the structure of the paved surfaces have remained uniform, blending perfectly with their surroundings.
Community Upliftment Category
In the Community Upliftment category nominees were selected and awarded based on the use of local labour; paving technicality; and the scale and impact of the project.
In this category, C.E.L. was nominated for our paving products used to upgrade the gravel roads of Kassiesbaai, Arniston, Southern Cape. Upon completion, the paving project received great satisfaction from both the residents and the client, with a total 6 400m² of concrete brick paving laid and 28 local jobs created.
In addition, we were able to successfully eliminate dust created previously from the gravel roads as well as remove the washed-out roads from earlier heavy downpours.
C.E.L Paving Products Awards
C.E.L. was represented by Claude Gorgulho, Lenny Gorgulho, Ray Green and Gill Ritchie.
The evening was a huge success, with our team being awarded for each of our 3 nominations, in both Precast for Life and Community Upliftment. What made the evening that much more special was that we were joined by Norwood Kotze and John Daniels as representatives from the Cape Agulhas Municipality, after our nomination for their project, Kassiesbaai Village Roads, received an award.
A big thanks to the Concrete Manufacturers Association for a superb evening and our sincere congratulations to all the other winners in each of the categories.
