upgrade civils paving project supports tourism and local employment
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
C.E.L. Paving’s Vintage concrete paving bricks, in conjunction with Pavatile Eurocobbles, have been used exclusively to upgrade gravel roads and storm water channels in the West Coast fishing village, Kassiesbaai.
The Kassiesbaai Conservation Area, near Arniston in the Cape Agulhas Municipality, is a picturesque coastal village with huge tourism potential but plagued by high unemployment.
The Department of Rural Development and the Municipality are encouraging tourism to the area to alleviate this problem in the long term as well as creating direct employment with upgrading projects to address unemployment in the short term.
The road upgrade project addressed both issues, by improving Kassiesbaai as a destination tourism resort as well as sourcing local labour.
