Flooding – A reality in the drought stricken Western Cape
Permeable paving, as an essential element of a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS), offers relief when it comes to surface drainage and flooding.
A key function of permeable paving is for the reduction of surface water run-off from a paved area.
By allowing rain water to penetrate between the hard surface of the permeable paving blocks, engineered sub structures assist with the replenishment of ground water. With our current water shortage in the Western Cape, this contribution to our water table is essential. Typically, in urban areas, water run-off is directed into streams and into the sea through various storm water channels. Permeable concrete block paving (PCBP), due to its designed moulded profile, allows for a far larger absorption of rainfall directly in to the ground.
